EVERY PAINTING HAS A STORY in my Native Abstractions series. Inspired by the Native American art of storytelling, the paintings featured here often incorporate images and symbols that hold deep multicultural and spiritual significance to indigenous people. Some are accompanied by Native American poems, some adapted from the Navajo, that inspired the works. Some works depict actual landmarks; others depict indigenous ceremonies; all are designed to capture a sense of community and cultural interconnectedness across generations. Each of the mixed media works incorporates my hand-painted papers resulting in unique textures and effects that cannot be achieved through paint alone.
